April 2022 | Tips + Tricks For Dressing According To Your Body Shape
Alright ladies, it’s that time of month again…time to get your wardrobe in check!
But how are you supposed to do that when you are struggling to dress according to your body shape? - Not to worry…that is what I am here for!
Alright, let’s get right into it - There are 4 main types of body shapes that most people fall into:
Rectangle - Pear - Hourglass - Apple
Don’t know your body shape? Don’t worry, many woman struggle with this. Here is a little trick I have learned along the way - photo below as an example. Put on something tight and have someone take a straight on picture of you. Then, draw lines from your shoulders, chest, waist, and hips. After that, connect those lines - what shape did you come up with?
This is your body shape! No matter what you came up with, I am going to help you look and feel amazing. Personal style starts with loving yourself and dressing according to your body…not buying clothes according to what you want your body to be.
Rectangle
This body shape is the most common in women and is when you have little to no waist. It is important to keep this in mind when dressing yourself…there are many ways to create a waist. Here are my top two suggestions:
High rise bottoms with a front or full tucked top. This brings the focus on the tuck and creates the illusion of a waist!
A dress with a belt or cinching around your natural waist - this is great to create a waist but also make your legs look longer…WIN WIN
Pear
If you are pear shaped, then you are likely slim around the shoulder + waist area and wider around the hips. While dressing, it is important to remember to highlight the upper half of your body! This will create a balanced look while also deemphasizing the lower hips and thighs. My suggestions are:
High collar shirts or something with embellishment. This brings the eyes up and to focus on your upper body.
Strong shoulders are going to be your friend! This will create the illusion of a hourglass body shape and create symmetry!
Hourglass
An hourglass body shape has a significantly smaller waist than your hip and shoulder area. This is the least common body type! It is important to remember to focus on maintaining balance + accentuating the waist. My recommendations are:
Fitted clothing! This will follow the natural shape of your body and keep things proportionate without much thought.
High waist bottoms are your friend! This will sit at your natural waist and turn the focus on all the right things!
Apple
If you are similar measurements between shoulder, waist and hips but have some curviness, then you are probably going to identify with an apple body shape. If you are dressing this body shape, it is important to keep in mind that you likely have little to no definition, so creating a waist is going to be a priority! My suggestions are:
Wear bottoms that are not skinny - this will create an unbalanced look. Instead grab bootcut, cargo pants, wide leg, or flare bottoms.
Jumpsuits are also going to be great for you! They will hit you are the natural waist and keep everything else crisp and clean!
These are not 100% foolproof, but it is a great place to start if you are having trouble feeling confident in your clothing!
As always - let me know if you are struggling, and we will find your personal style together!
